Former Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Donald Chalmers (retd.) returned to HMAS Kuttabul after nearly a decade, reliving his time in the senior service. Welcomed by Commander Australian Fleet, Rear Admiral Christopher Smith, Vice Admiral Chalmers toured Kuttabul Wharf and the vessels he had previously served on, including HMA Ships Brisbane and Supply.
Vice Admiral Chalmers noted the positive contribution of women in the Navy since 1958, recalling the successful integration of women in ships during a 1990s Gulf deployment. His career highlights include commanding the RAN Task Group during the Gulf War, for which he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia. His tenure saw the commissioning of Collins-class submarines and Anzac-class frigates, marking a period of growth for the Navy.
